이번 오프닝 공연은 이번 전시에서 처음으로 소개하는 신작 <알고리듬>(2022)에서 인공지능이 만들어낸 몸짓, 사운드와 함께 선보이는 안무가의 즉흥 퍼포먼스이다. 알고리즘의 일련의 절차에 갇혀 움직임을 수행하는 인공지능의 ‘몸짓’과 형식에 얽매이지 않고 자유롭게 ‘무용’을 서술하는 안무가의 순수한 창조의 ‘몸짓’은 어떤 모습으로 대비가 되어 보일지, 이들의 관계성은 어떤 물음을 던질 수 있을지 탐색해 보고자 한다.
공연에서 안무가는 “하나의 조용한 움직임으로 시작해 천천히 영감의 상승 곡선을 따라 올라간다. 자신의 충만한 감정을 외면화하는 몸짓에 이를 때까지.” 그리고 그녀의 영혼의 언어를 신체의 움직임으로 표현한다. 그녀의 움직임은 솟아오르고 스며드는 파도와 같이 한없이 넘실거리는 리듬에 따른다. 안무가가 드러내고 있는 이 ‘몸짓’은 그녀의 내면의 흐름을 표현하고 있는 그녀만의 고유한 순수한 ‘몸짓’이다. 안무가의 ‘몸짓’은 현재 이 장소, 이 순간과 상호작용하며 끊임없이 자신의 무게를 가늠하여 창조적 행위로 발전시킨다.
순수한 ‘몸짓’의 언어를 전달하는 안무가의 자유로운 움직임은 어떤 상징성을 가지고 있을까? 신체를 통해 표현하는 예술적 행위인 ‘무용’을 감상하며 시간의 흐름에 따라 사라져버리는 순간의 나의 ‘몸짓’에 대해 다시 바라보는 시간이 되기를 바란다.

Along with AI-generated gestures and sound, the dancer from <Algorithm> (2022), which is unveiled for the first time at the exhibition, gives an impromptu opening performance. As AI performs under a series of process of algorithm and the dancer performs of her own free will without sticking to any forms, the performance will give the audience an opportunity to compare “gestures” of AI with “gestures” of the human dancer and their relationships.
In the performance, the dancer starts little move and gradually brings up aspiration until she reaches to the point where she can fully reveal her emotion. She lets her spirit’s language speak through her body movement. Her movement becomes dynamic to the boundless rhythm as a rolling sea. The dancer’s “gestures” are her unique and pure “gestures” that show the flow of her inner self. Interacting with the place and the moment, her “gestures” continue to evolve themselves as a creative practice.
What does free movement of the dancer symbolize by conveying the language of pure “gestures”? The exhibition will serve as a venue where the audience can rethink about their fleeting “gestures” while watching “dance”, an artistic activity which is expressed by body.
